I've just scratched the surface of the hundreds of images I took while on the workshop, but I can tell you taking the workshop was a thrilling and delightful experience for me. WebThe Snowy is the largest North American owl when measured by weight. In recent winters the Snowy Owls has made the Jersey shore a visiting spot during the harsh winter months. It's one of the few places left in the world where you can sit quietly for hours and watch the birds fly past without hearing or seeing any human influence. Most of the owls that are in Massachusetts during the winter are young, inexperienced, and face many challenges. Some of the factors that may trigger these irruptions include variations in food supply in the Arctic, severe snow and ice cover in their usual wintering areas, or a superabundance of owls resulting from an exceptional nesting season prior to a southward irruption. No one had ever explained the science behind this and now it makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the great information accompanied by amazing pictures. There will be a truck nearby where you can warm up should you get too cold. I learned a lot and really enjoyed the show! "new member that joined the club an hour prior to your presentation". Apart from that I had a lovely time and have come away with lots of great photos. We wont freeze out there getting our cameras clicking on the lights. While they typically select high perches to give them a good vantage point from which to hunt, we have scouted several locations that increase the likelihood of capturing an eye-level perch shot. Not only were the photos beautiful to see, but when you added the stories behind them that explained how they were taken, that added even more depth to them. If you are passing a large open field this winter, that white spot in the distance might only be an errant piece of plasticbut it could be a Snowy Owl!
